Once upon a time, in a land far, far away...
Alright let’s cut the crap. This isn’t your typical children’s story about magic and witches and distant lands and happy endings. Wait, did I say it wasn’t about magic and witches? Sorry, my mistake. This is a story about magic witches and wizards, but like I said, it's not it a distant land and there’s no happy endings. In fact, although this story hasn’t ended, it’s about as far from a happy ending as you could imagine. Confused? Well, I’m just getting started, let me take you back to the beginning.
So there’s this wizard, right? He’s powerful, almighty blah blah blah. Well, he’s come up with a plan you see? One that ends with the next generation of witches and wizards turning evil - that is if no one can stop him first. You see, the year is 1976, and Tom Riddle is still known as simply Tom Riddle. Well, actually, that’s not true. He is known as Professor Riddle, Potions Master at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
What the frickity frick frick I hear you ask? Well, when he came to newly appointed Headmaster Dumbledore for a teaching position, he was at first rejected, but then Dumbledore thought, hey, maybe this would be a great way to keep an eye on him! So that’s what Dumbledore did, and the start of 1976 saw Tom Riddle become a Hogwarts professor.
Where does that leave the wizarding world? Well, the students have no idea what’s happening, either do the teachers for that matter. Riddle is gathering followers, within both the Hogwarts community and outside, in the rest of the world. Strange deaths keep occurring all over Europe, but so far none have made the connection between them. It seems for now the wizarding world is carefree, unaware of the looming darkness. Can I just emphasise the ‘for now’ here? Yep, it won’t be much longer before someone realises something’s up, before Riddle slips up, before all is revealed and the wizards and witches of the world will learn what will happen if tomorrow never comes.
And they all lived unhappily ever after...
